Minutes for meeting of the ICU Linux User Group on Friday, May 21st 1999
The meeting was held at 1pm in Southside upper lounge.
Matthijs did not agree to 'mail Henry to check on the room'. This has now been removed. Apart from this, agreed.
We still need a real, elected treasurer. Henry will chase Marc Broster (the current treasurer) to get hold of current financial details. Marc is a final year undergraduate, so replacement is urgent. Unfortunately, most of our 'core' membership is staff or postgraduates - are these people eligible to hold commitee positions? Nobody can hold more than one position, and Matthijs has ruled himself out, so none of us can do it. Henry will ask various other members whether they could take the job on.
Data Protection Act - what is our status here? Ed will check.
Freshers' Fair. Henry will book a stand for the LUG. We will certainly have a few PCs doing demonstrations. It might be a good idea to have a computerized registration system (as a web page, or X client) which lets us enter details of potential members. However, there are many much more interesting things which a computer could be doing. We could run both the registration system and some kind of demo, and switch between them. But that leaves the question of who will write the program. Could it link into our web site?
We would like to have some kind of 'mini-event' later this term, for members; perhaps we could go to a restaurant or something. We will discuss this in later meetings.
